Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 Test
After the luxurious DMC-L1 the retro look and offered at a price rather high (2000 euros, housing naked launch), Panasonic introduced the second in its history Reflex: DMC-L10. Offered at a price more accessible, L10 reveals in the landscape classic Reflex. Doubtless to distinguish itself from its competitors, Panasonic offers a device halfway between the bridge and the Reflex. The DMC-L10 proposes functions rather unusual for a Reflex! It has an LCD steerable of 6.35 cm. We do boudons not our pleasure. We have always appreciated these screens on the compact. They allow the adoption of the angles of acrobatic shots without breaking the back (close to the ground, above a crowd, and so on.). The L10 also adopted the subject of the screen. It is thus possible to fit this Reflex, as is done with a simple compact. This is far from being an exclusive. For some time now, builders, as Olympus and Nikon, offer referred via the LCD displays on their Reflex.
Other features directly from the compact can be found on this Reflex Panasonic: face detection, intelligent ISO. Functions implemented with care, and quite effective. Face detection ensures proper exposure, and ISO sensitivity intelligent adapts to the scene. The latter has avoided some vague motion by increasing the sensitivity, which has reduced the shutter speed and thus ensure the sharpness of the dump.
Other mimicry with the bridges, the layout and appearance commands DMC-L10. Without achieving simplicity of a compact automatic, the camera takes a big wheel selection, a directional pad and some buttons shortcuts. The sensitivity, white balance, the choice of the development or the extent of exposure s’atteignent via a pressure button. Navigation through multiple menus is sent back to oblivion. Panasonic is even duplicate the luxury of access to functions with “Function”. The latter concentrated in a single screen, the parameters for image compression, file type (JPEG, RAW, RAW + JPEG), image stabilization, sensitivity, white balance, Flash. The only concession made to the world of Reflex, the presence of a wheel falling under the thumb for setting the fast opening, the shutter speed or zoom in the image display mode.
Panasonic remains faithful to technologies and features that have made the success of its compact. The stabilization of the sensor Mega OIS is faithful to go to offset the slight movements and tremors of the photographer. The scene modes are also present! Reserved for compact digital camera, they are gradually emerging on reflex. Olympus also proposes in its Reflex E-410 and E510. These modes catch settings for pre specific situations. The user only has to fit and shoot.
Everything seems done to facilitate the use of the enclosure. The objective of the manufacturer is really attract users who are reluctant to switch to a Reflex. It provides a set of benchmarks to which they are accustomed, and the scenery is minimal!
With all this, the interface is a delight! The grip with the broad equipped to handle slip grip is comfortable. As for the use, it is enough to be familiar with the basics of photography for it to be obvious. The photographer shall be lost forever in menus and submenus.
The DMC-L10 remains a reflex. At any time, the photographer keeps his hand on all camera settings and clichés. Shooting, bracketting, type of film (the photographer to access presets simulating different “movies”: black and white, color cast more or less pronounced, custom setting), correction of exposure… Without being a professional it will meet the needs of amateurs.
This second SLR Panasonic is not without fault. We easily set the white balance in difficulty. The L10 has thus provides excellent color photographs to random, while white balance was performed manually. The responsiveness of the autofocus is questioned in poorly lit environments, or when the Live View (covered by the screen) is used. The sensitivity limited to ISO 1600 is a little weak in the face of mounting competition globally ISO 3200. The goal 14-50 mm used produces a shadow with the flash. Attention therefore, when using large target. Pushed to its limits to development, L10 may simply decide not to shoot. A phenomenon quite embarrassing if the photographer wants to do photography experimental… The coverage of viewfinder is also in déça of what can be expected from a reflex.
Treated by image processor Venus Engine III, the image quality is good bill with many details, contrast and respect colors.
It is a MOS sensor of 10 million pixels which team the DMC-L10. Born into a partnership with Olympus, Panasonic SLR provides snapshots format 4 / 3. A format that can divert. He also uses the system dust by supersonic waves that can be found on the SLR from Olympus. During this test, so you have noticed that the L10 is similar to the reflex of that other Japanese manufacturer (Live View mode… scene). Panasonic has undoubtedly inspired. It did not stop at a simple copy and was able to customize them. The screen is moveable in the most blatant.
