Nokia N810 Complete Test

After N800 out there is a little less than a year, Nokia changed his strange concept of Internet tablet with the N810. Two major new features distinguish it from its predecessor: the N810 features a sliding keyboard and a GPS receiver. However, this has the effect of significantly increasing the device: it far exceeds the 200 g. With its full QWERTY keyboard hidden behind the screen, the N810 also overweight. Given its size, and put it in a pocket will not be comfortable…
Despite this flaw, it is true that the presence of a keyboard brings a certain legitimacy to the use of the tablet to communicate in a situation of mobility. It was so much easier to write e-mails or chat via instant messaging. With keys fairly flat and very close to each other, the keyboard is not particularly easy to master. The virtual keyboard is always available.
Still Wi-Fi (b and g), this terminal has the same functionality as its predecessor. Priority is given to the Internet in all its forms: surfing, e-mail, chat, RSS feeds, Internet radio, and so on. The Mozilla browser allows you to browse comfortably on the Web, access our favorite sites and services. However there were some cumbersome in operation, especially when loading content animated Flash. Good news, thanks to a version of Skype adapted to N810, it is finally possible to call into voice over IP. The headphones are also provided office handsfree for telephony, voice chat and video. Too bad that the solution to chat and videoconferencing changed little: still no access to Yahoo Messenger instant messaging or Windows Messenger. What’s in the mail, it is still not possible to open the office documents (Word, Excel or PowerPoint) attachments. Other attachments open without worry: PDF files, pictures, audio files, and so on.
Some of these deficiencies can be remedied by installing third-party software: a small community of developers has been formed since the first Nokia Internet Tablet and offers more than 200 software (eg Pidgin for the cat) to download and install on the site Maemo . org.
The multimedia functionality of N810 is no shortage of the call. His player easily takes care of the audio and video files the most common. A photo album is also present. The display of photos and videos is particularly well served by the large screen, high-contrast and precise, and has a high resolution. To store data, the N810 has 2 gigabytes of internal memory that can be extended with a miniSD card or microSD within a limit of 8 GB
GPS Navigation pay
Second big news besides the keyboard: the integration of a GPS receiver. Taking about 5 minutes to set out, it is used with an application called card, signed Wayfinder (editor of GPS navigation solution for mobile). Unfortunately, the solution is far from being operational as soon as the user turns on the N810. The mapping of France and the Benelux countries is well and truly established in the memory of N810, making it possible to easily locate addresses or points of interest (including all terminals Free and paid WiFi) and display them on a map, store them in its favorites, and so on. But the civil route and visual guidance and voice, it paid off, and therefore not activated. Another nasty surprise: it is possible to test the free navigation function, but its installation requires an upgrade of the terminal! To use the drive, the N810 comes with a need to fix equipment mounting sucker, sold as an option by Nokia.
